His career has been built outside the usual system, and due to this, some of his work has been largely overshadowed. He owes the portuguese audience most of his hits. In 1965 he created "Sheiks" the most popular pop group of the 60’s in Portugal (where he sang and played the drums). At the same time he played football at Benfica (juniors section). He was a member, as co-founder or guest, of many of the most important portuguese bands of the 60’s (such as "Flúido", "Banda 4", "Thilo’s Combo", and many more). As a performer, he won the Portuguese Song Contest (twice, 1974 and 1977), won performance awards at Slantchey Briag (Bilgaria) and Sopot (Poland) Festivals (as he did in Belgium).
